Private firms ran almost all care homes forced to shut for breaches in England | Social care

A study by Oxford University has found that 98% of care homes closed by the Care Quality Commission between 2011 and 2023 for endangering children or vulnerable adults were profit-making private companies. The research also found over 90% of children’s homes closed by Ofsted between 2014 and 2023 were run for profit. The study demonstrated that regulatory measures were more likely to be employed on for-profit providers in both adult and children’s social care.
