Procolored, a printer manufacturer, has been found to distribute software drivers infected with malware including the XRed backdoor. The issue was discovered when a reviewer encountered antivirus alerts after plugging in a USB loaded with the printer software. An investigation revealed that this malware distribution affected 39 files of software downloads for six printer models. Procolored initially dismissed the antivirus alerts but removed the downloads and committed to rigorous security checks after receiving detailed malware analysis.
