More than half of respondents to a Ponemon Institute survey reported experiencing three identity-related data breaches in the past two years, potentially due to inadequate investment in identity and access management (IAM) technologies. The study found just 16% of organizations had a mature IAM plan in place, with the majority struggling with budgets, a lack of programs, and senior-level awareness. The breaches were often attributed to a lack of comprehensive identity controls or policies and resulted in legal and financial consequences, including lawsuits, fines, and reputational damage.
