Personalized screening approach may better predict preeclampsia in the first trimester of pregnancy

A new screening algorithm combining maternal history, ultrasound data and blood tests may better predict preeclampsia in the first trimester, potentially preventing this life-threatening pregnancy condition, according to a study published in Hypertension, an American Heart Association journal. The research showed the model had a 63.1% detection rate for preterm preeclampsia and 77.3% for early preeclampsia, with a false positive rate of 15.8%.
