Payers Are Putting Profit Over Patients with Denials and Prior Auth Policies, Hospitals Say

The relationship between commercial insurers and hospitals is increasingly strained due to expanding burdensome insurer policies that impact cash flow and patient safety, warns the American Hospital Association (AHA). Large, compulsory requirements create operational, financial and personal burdens, with appeals for payment escalating costs and becoming incredibly time-consuming. Overuse of AI in automated denials can be detrimental, ignoring unique patient needs. Increased transparency and a faster appeals processes from payers is needed, the report adds.
