A cyber-criminal group called Qilin, believed to be from Russia, targeted a blood-testing firm at London hospitals causing over 1,000 operations and hundreds of appointments to be cancelled. The attack on June 3 saw the hackers demand a £40m ransom and later publish details of patients, including names, birth dates, and potentially NHS numbers and blood tests on the dark web. The data is about 400GB, which may affect tens of thousands of patients whose data is handled by Synnovis. The NHS and Synnovis are investigating.
