Over 80% of Targets Found in Russia

Cloud Atlas, a cyber threat actor active since 2014, has been found using a new malware called VBCloud in attacks aimed at “several dozen users”. The malware is spread via phishing emails which exploit a vulnerability in the formula editor. Over 80% of the targets were in Russia, though victims were also reported in Belarus, Canada, Moldova, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Vietnam. VBCloud is designed to retrieve more malware payloads, including PowerShower, to steal data from victims’ devices.
