Over 2,000 doctors have written an open letter expressing concern over the regulation of physician associates (PAs) by the General Medical Council (GMC). The doctors propose that, if the GMC begins regulating the PAs, distinct GMC numbers should be given to PAs to distinguish them from medical doctors. They also wish for the establishment of a clearly defined scope of practice for PAs, and thorough verification for those transitioning from voluntary to statutory registers.
