Manitoba’s primary care system is on the brink of collapse due to an insurmountable list of issues including a lack of doctors, delays in diagnosis, disjointed care, crowded emergency departments and insufficient staff. Meanwhile, the OurCare Priority Panel, created by Tara Kiran and MASS LBP across five provinces, is discussing potential solutions to the crisis. Currently, the province struggles with nearly 20,000 healthcare job vacancies and a growing patient list. The panel’s almost 40 recommendations emphasise the importance of addressing social determinants of health, enhancing accountability and transparency and addressing structural inequalities.
