‘Our attack surface was much bigger than we thought’

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust found an extra 5,000-10,000 devices connecting to its network following a trial using Armis’s cyber exposure platform. The devices, including PlayStations, coffee machines and electric vehicles, offered potential entry for hackers and expanded the network’s attack surface. The discovery was part of an ongoing effort to modernise the trust’s infrastructure, including increased system visibility and automated security management. The trust lacks a dedicated cyber team, relying mainly on automated tools and vendor partnerships for cybersecurity management.
