The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has decided not to pursue a regulation for establishing “rules of the road” for the nationwide health information network (NwHIN) after receiving feedback that federal regulation could slow development of health information exchange. Instead, they will implement an approach that defines and implements nationwide trusted exchange with greater agility and lower likelihood of regret. ONC will continue to promote trusted exchange through various actions.
