The UK government has awarded over 20 North Sea licenses to 14 companies, including Shell, ENI, and Harbour Energy, to store CO2 from heavy industries in depleted oil and gas fields. The North Sea Transition Authority anticipates the firms could store around 10% of the UK’s yearly CO2 emissions, equating to nearly 30 million tonnes annually, by 2030.
