Ohio lawmakers propose minimum nurse-to-patient ratios

Ohio lawmakers have proposed legislation to address nurse staffing issues in state hospitals through enforceable minimum staffing standards and a $20 million loan-to-grant program for nurses who complete five years of service in Ohio. The Nurse Workforce & Safe Patient Care Act aims to alleviate the pandemic-induced nursing shortage in the state. Already, states including Oregon have approved legal nurse-to-patient staffing mandates.
