Office of Civil Rights extends comment period on changes to HIPAA privacy rule

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has extended the comment period for proposed changes to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Privacy Rule. The deadline for public comments has been moved from March 22 to May 6. The changes aim to improve communication and data exchange between providers and health plans, enhance patient access to health information, and reduce administrative burdens while protecting patient privacy. The Office for Civil Rights encourages all stakeholders to submit comments by May 6.
