NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation: Automated Blocking of Commonly Used Passwords

The New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) has amended its Cybersecurity Regulation to impose further cybersecurity requirements. Among these are the implementation of an automated method to block commonly used passwords. These changes apply specifically to “Class A Companies,” defined as firms with at least $20 million in gross annual revenue. Non-compliance penalties include financial fines.
