The North Carolina state Senate approved a bill banning the wearing of masks in public, even for health reasons. The move aims to deter protesters from hiding their identities, given the recent string of pro-Palestine protests. Opponents raised concerns over the effects on the immunocompromised and those undergoing cancer treatments. If signed into law, protests conducted while masked will incur higher penal classifications. The bill is en route to Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper, but the Republican supermajority can overturn any veto.
