NIH cuts overhead funding for research

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has reduced the amount it will now grant for indirect funding to Universities from an average of 30%, with some universities charging over 60%, to a limit of 15% saving the NIH around $4bn annually. The NIH argues funds should go towards direct scientific research instead of administrative overheads. Critics claim the decision will limit medical breakthroughs that could cure cancer.
