A critical incident was declared at a Wirral NHS Trust due to an ‘unprecedented’ level of demand, mostly caused by flu cases. An email sent to staff at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge hospitals, run by the trust, said the issue affected their entire operation and patient safety. A plan was in place to maintain safety and request volunteer clinical support, but the Emergency Department is still busy, requiring those with genuine emergencies to wait longer.
