The UK government plans to require private providers of essential public services to boost digital security measures against cyber attacks. The proposal is in response to a cyber attack by Russian hacker group Qilin, which disrupted healthcare for thousands of NHS patients. The new legislation will target private companies supplying public services, to increase resilience and reporting requirements against cybersecurity threats. Although focussed largely on healthcare, the regulation will affect many other sectors of core infrastructure and digital services.
