The use of mixed-sex wards in NHS England hospitals has nearly reached its highest level in a decade, with around 5,000 breaches of guidelines against mixed wards reported in February alone. The Independent found 4,811 reported breaches in February, up from 3,789 in November, and identified evidence of patients suffering sexual assaults while on mixed mental health wards. The government outlawed mixed wards in the NHS in 2010, though some exceptions are allowed.

A survey by NHS England reveals that 80% of UK patients believe the healthcare system could be vulnerable to cyberattacks, and half fear their data
