New WatchGuard Threat Lab Report Discovers 94% Increase in Network Malware as Cybercriminals Exploit Advanced, Encrypted Connections

WatchGuard Technologies’ Q4 2024 Internet Security Report highlights a 94% increase in network-based malware detections, a 6% increase in Gateway AntiVirus detections, a 74% increase in Advanced Persistent Threat Blocker detections, and a 315% surge in proactive machine learning detection. The report also notes a significant rise in crypto miner detection at 141%. The analysis shows that attackers are leveraging evasive malware techniques to evade traditional defenses and are likely to continue exploiting familiar vulnerabilities and flaws.
