New treatments for cystic fibrosis: boosting life expectancy

Life expectancy for cystic fibrosis (CF) sufferers has increased significantly with the discovery of new treatments, such as CFTR modulators. These drugs have greatly improved the symptoms of CF patients, however, they are costly and inaccessible for many. UK’s Enterprise Therapeutics aims to address the needs of CF patients whose mutations cannot be targeted by CFTR modulators, with its drug ETD001. Gene therapy research is also gaining attention as a potential treatment method.
