The Earth BioGenome Project is developing a tool to produce reference genomes for all known eukaryotic species over the next ten years. This tool is fast and combines PacBio high-fidelity reads with maps to generate nearly complete assemblies. This data can then be used to further our understanding of human evolution and development. The mapping technology has been successfully tested and is now available online for public access.
