New study offers hope for reducing malaria in pregnant women living with HIV

A study by the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) and the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) has found that preventive treatment with DHA-PPQ is a safe and effective method for women living with HIV to prevent malaria during pregnancy, even in low malaria transmission areas. The trial involved more than 600 pregnant women in Gabon and Mozambique. The findings could help protect an estimated one million pregnant women who annually suffer from a dual malaria and HIV infection.
