Elastic Security Labs has discovered a Rust-based infostealer, named EDDIESTEALER, dispersing via fake CAPTCHA verification pages. These misleading prompts cause users to run injurious PowerShell scripts, deploying the infostealer on Windows systems to gather sensitive data including credentials, browser specifics, and cryptocurrency wallet details. The threat showcases the growing trend among cybercriminals using Rust for malware development due to its modern features promoting enhanced stealth and resistance against conventional threat detection mechanisms.
