Cybersecurity firm Verizon has released its annual data breach report, revealing 16,312 security incidents and 5,199 breaches from November 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022. The report also details the industry’s response to Log4Shell’s vulnerability in late 2021 and the subsequent exploitations. Ransomware constituted 24% of breaches, remaining steady from the previous year. Business email compromise attacks and human errors contributed significantly to breaches. Verizon also reported that the median cost of ransomware has doubled from $13,000 to $26,000 over the past two years.
