New PathWiper data wiper malware hits critical infrastructure in Ukraine

PathWiper, a new data wiper malware, is being used in targeted attacks against Ukraine’s critical infrastructure to disrupt operations. The malware was deployed through a legitimate endpoint administration tool, suggesting attackers compromised the system earlier. Cybersecurity firm Cisco Talos attributes this attack to a Russia-linked threat, possibly an evolution of the HermeticWiper malware. Unlike previous malwares, PathWiper identifies all connected drives and overwrites critical system files, rendering systems inoperable.
