New Mirai Variant Murdoc_Botnet Launches DDoS Attacks via IoT Exploits

The Qualys Threat Research Unit detected a new variant of the Mirai botnet, Murdoc_Botnet, that targets vulnerable AVTECH cameras and Huawei HG532 routers. The malware leverages existing vulnerabilities to fetch payloads for infection, with Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico, and Indonesia being most affected. Shielding against Murdoc_Botnet involves monitoring irregular processes and avoiding unverified scripts. Keeping systems updated with the latest patches can also reduce the risk of infection.
