New laws to protect the NHS and MoD from cyber attacks to be in King’s Speech

A new UK bill aimed at bolstering cybersecurity protections for public bodies such as the NHS will be introduced, according to the upcoming King’s Speech. Under consideration by Science, Innovation and Technology Secretary Peter Kyle, the measure follows major cyber attacks earlier this year on MoD payroll handler SSCL and NHS-contracted blood testing firm Synnovis. The proposed law is expected to close legislative loopholes and mandates improved anti-hacking defences for both public bodies and their private-sector suppliers.
