New insights into why immunotherapy works for some cancers, not others

A study co-authored by researchers from the University of Texas has found how certain cancers resist immunotherapy by preventing the immune system from activating. The team discovered that a key element of the immune system, NKG2A, cannot engage with cancer cells without a particular trigger, and the study’s findings could help develop more effective immunotherapy drugs.
