New HIPAA Rules Mandate 72-Hour Data Restoration and Annual Compliance Audits

The US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights has proposed new rules to strengthen cybersecurity in healthcare organizations. The proposal aims to modify the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to better protect electronic protected health information against cyber attacks. The modifications include mandatory encryption of data, multi-factor authentication, regular compliance audits and vulnerability assessments.
