Nearly 4 billion passwords exposed by malware

In 2024, infostealer malware proliferated, with cybercriminals using it to steal credentials, cryptocurrency, and personal data from millions of users. A cybersecurity report revealed that hackers employing infostealers, including Lumma and StealC, infected 4.3 million machines, resulting in around 330 million hacked credentials. Information posted in credential lists, apparently sourced from infostealer logs, comprised about 3.9 billion credentials. The research warns that infostealer malware will continue to be a significant threat in 2025, despite law enforcement efforts to disrupt it.
