National report shows surge in e-prescribing among health practitioners

In 2011, 58 percent of office-based physicians in the US were using e-prescribing, with solo practitioners showing the most significant growth. The number of electronic prescriptions increased to 570 million. The report also shows that e-prescriptions resulted in a 10 percent increase in patient first-fill medication adherence, which could lead to significant healthcare cost savings and improved health outcomes in the next 10 years.
