Data broker National Public Data is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a major data breach earlier this year that resulted in the loss of hundreds of millions of Social Security numbers. The parent company, Jerico Pictures, anticipates facing attempts by creditors to recoup losses and a wave of litigation and regulatory challenges, including from the Federal Trade Commission and over 20 US states. Cybersecurity researchers estimate the data breach affected about 300 million people.
