The US DOJ and the FBI have successfully conducted a multinational operation to dismantle the Qakbot malware and botnet, which had infected 700,000 machines worldwide. However, no arrests were made, leaving the malware’s delivery infrastructure intact and it continues to pose a reduced threat. The agencies recommend various safeguards, including MFA, employee security training, regular software updates, and stringent password policies, among others. The DOJ is also assisting with checking past infections with recovered user data.
