Healthcare data of US citizens has been exposed through data breaches, with the largest being from Blue Shield of California affecting 4.7 million people. The insurer stated that over a three-year period their configuration allowed Google Analytics to share member data with Google Ads. The data could have been used for targeted advertising, but no misuse by external parties has been identified. Multiple other medical organisations have also reported breaches. Regulations to restrict tracking technologies fell through after a court declared them illegal.
