Microsoft has identified a recent surge in activity by the state-sponsored Russian threat actor, Midnight Blizzard, thought to be responsible for the 2020 SolarWinds breach. In a blog post, Microsoft revealed the group is seeking to exploit information shared between customers and itself. It involves cryptographic secrets such as passwords, credentials, certificates and keys. To date, the company has found no evidence that customer-facing systems have been compromised.
