Microsoft targets AI deepfake cybercrime network in lawsuit

Microsoft has launched a legal action against four individuals who are allegedly part of a global cybercrime network generating illegal AI deepfakes of celebrities. The company’s Digital Crimes Unit claimed the individuals were misusing the firm’s Azure OpenAI services and associated API keys. By obtaining a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, Microsoft has seized an instrumental website and disrupted the group’s operations. Microsoft has asked for the group’s actions to be declared willful and malicious and for damages to be awarded.
