Metabolic Proteins “Deorphanized” with Gene-Metabolite Association Prediction Tool

Research teams at Rockefeller University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center have developed a platform to investigate the function of metabolic genes and their role in individual biochemistry. The Gene-Metabolite Association Prediction (GeneMAP) platform identified a gene essential for mitochondrial choline transport. This finding suggests that the gene, SLC25A48, regulates choline availability. The study may aid in understanding diseases related to metabolic function and development of therapeutics.
