Scottish government targets for treating children with mental health problems within 18 weeks have been breached 43,670 times over the last decade. The goal was set in 2014 by the SNP government but has also been breached by a cumulative 4.2 million days since 2019. The Scottish Mental Health Partnership criticised the government for reducing mental health funding, while Alex Cole-Hamilton, Scottish Liberal Democrats leader, urged for faster action and more investment.
