Member of LockBit ransomware group sentenced to 4 years in prison

Mikhail Vasiliev, a dual Canadian-Russian national, was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the LockBit ransomware attacks, which targeted over 1,000 victims and extorted millions. After his arrest in November 2022, the Ontario resident pled guilty to eight charges including cyber extortion and weapons offenses. Authorities managed to severely disrupt LockBit’s operation, however, there are concerns that the group remains active.
