Australia has sanctioned a Russian man, Aleksandr Ermakov, for his involvement in the country’s largest cyber-attack, which resulted in the theft and online release of the personal data of 9.7m Medibank users. Ermakov, believed to be part of cyber-crime gang REvil, faces the first-ever sanctions of this kind in Australia, including financial penalties and a travel ban.
