Medibank data breach: Australia blames cyber criminals in Russia for attack

Cybercriminals in Russia have carried out a ransomware attack on Medibank, one of Australia’s largest private health insurers. The Australian Federal Police have claimed that the criminals have caused sensitive personal data to be published to the dark web. The stolen data, from around 9.7 million customers, includes health claims for almost half a million individuals. There is speculation that these criminals are connected to REvil, a Russian ransomware gang.
