Malware botnets exploit outdated D-Link routers in recent attacks

The Ficora and Capsaicin botnets have seen increased activity targeting outdated D-Link routers. They leverage weaknesses in D-Link’s management interface to execute malicious commands. The Ficora botnet has had significant activity in Japan and the U.S while Capsaicin focuses on East Asia. The intended purpose appears to be distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. Upgrading firmware and modifying default admin credentials can help protect against such botnets.
