Mac-specific FrigidStealer malware surfaces in the wild, uses fake web browser update scam to trick users

Hackers are using fake software updates to distribute macOS malware, dubbed ‘FrigidStealer’. This malware targets browser cookies, cryptocurrency-related files, and unencrypted Apple Notes. Once a user clicks on a fake update prompt, a malicious file is downloaded which bypasses macOS Gatekeeper security. The best defence against this attack is to avoid unexpected update prompts and ensure security software is current.
