Concerns have been made about aggressive coding practices within Medicare Advantage that exaggerate beneficiary illnesses to secure increased government payouts. The study presents these assessments as contributing to this issue. In 2020, limiting the risk-score impact of health risk assessments was linked to a spending cut of between $4.5bn and $12.3bn in Medicare.
