Long-term care: healthcare’s most vulnerable cyber target

The size, severity, and frequency of cyber attacks on senior care and living operators have increased, with 92% of healthcare organizations reporting incidents in 2024, an 81% rise from the previous year. This increase is attributed to the high value of healthcare data, proliferation of network-connected devices, less mature cybersecurity protection, and the trend of healthcare industry historically lagging behind in technology and digitization. The major threats include ransomware, data breaches, and employees inadvertently exposing credentials through malicious emails.
