loanDepot cyberattack causes data breach for 16.6 million people

US mortgage lender loanDepot said around 16.6 million customers had their personal information stolen in a ransomware attack earlier this month. It shut down its systems following the attack, affecting services including customer payments. The company, which is yet to share the type of information stolen, is offering credit monitoring and identity protection to those affected, and warned customers to be aware of potential phishing attacks and identity theft attempts.
