loanDepot cyberattack causes data breach for 16.6 million people

Mortgage lender loanDepot revealed that around 16.6 million people had their personal data stolen in a ransomware attack earlier this month. The company is offering free credit monitoring and identity protection services to affected individuals. This follows a January 6 attack that shut down some of the firm’s systems. Affected customers may be targeted in phishing attacks and identity theft attempts due to the nature of the compromised data.
