Lawmakers warn of impact HHS firings will have on medical device cybersecurity efforts

Thousands of employees were laid off at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including from the Food and Drug Administration. Congress held a hearing to address potential impacts on medical device cybersecurity, as the FDA oversees this task. Some fear the reductions will affect checks on medical devices and hamper the implementation of 2022 legislation that mandates new cybersecurity rules for medical device manufacturers. There are concerns that staffing reductions could obstruct response to cyber threat emergencies related to medical devices.
